SunBet strike it lucky with WPPR

The Treble Team is proud to announce that SunBet, the online betting arm of Sun International, has joined the Western Province Professional Rugby (WPPR) family as sponsors of the DHL Stormers and DHL Western Province teams.

SunBet, which offers a secure online platform through which bettors can bet on the outcome of games, will be an associate sponsor for both teams until the end of 2023.

The deal, which was exclusively brokered by the Treble Group, sees the Cape Town-based sports sponsorship agency securing a third sponsorship agreement that includes iconic sporting brands such as the Six Gun Grill Cape Cobras, Emirates Lions and the well-supported DHL Stormers and DHL WP.

Treble MD Kyle Nel is delighted with this new development and what value it brings: “Looking ahead we foresee exciting times in the rugby market with the unprecedented proposition of the DHL Stormers playing in the Pro16, which is a competitive northern hemisphere competition aligned with the top Irish, Italian, Scottish and Welsh clubs,” he said.

“Treble is proud to have played a major role in ensuring SunBet partners with a world-class rugby franchise that comes from a long and proud tradition of rugby excellence” says Nel. “We’ve recently seen SunBet partnering with the Six Gun Grill Cape Cobras and the Emirates Lions, so we are excited to see them joining forces with a leading rugby brand beginning a new journey with a new rugby stadium, which brings other exciting opportunities”

With SunBet being aligned with one of the oldest and most iconic rugby brands in the South African rugby, and now moving to the majestic Cape Town Stadium, there will be added value to the brands it represents. DHL Stormers are a team that has plenty of support around the country, and even the globe, having produced a number of leading Springbok stars over the years with talent that is the envy of other South African rugby teams.

The sponsorship makes SunBet the official sports betting partner of the teams, while the SunBet logo will feature on the shorts of the matchday kit of both the DHL Stormers and DHL Western Province going forward.

WPPR is proud to welcome a sponsor of SunBet’s standing at the beginning of an exciting new era for the DHL Stormers and DHL Western Province. The teams are at the start of a new chapter and SunBet’s support has further bolstered an impressive sponsorship portfolio, which links WPPR with top brands in the ongoing quest for excellence.

Sponsorship of the teams forms part of SunBet’s plans to expand its presence in the sports arena as it increases the number of games upon which bettors can bet on its secure, online, platform.

SunBet General Manager, Nitesh Matai, said that SunBet is proud to be associated with WPPR as a sponsor.

“Now fans can enjoy game time on TV as well as on our secure platform, where they can place bets against which team they think is most likely to win,” he said.

Pioneered by Treble, on behalf of Club Newlands, the event allowed DHL Stormers players and sponsors to enjoy a well-deserved break away from the hustle and bustle of the city, to take in a relaxed round of golf on the exquisite De Zalze Estate. The golf day is our way of showing immense gratitude and appreciation to the players, sponsors and valued partners.

After a smooth and busy registration, sponsors and partners joined the DHL Stormers players on the green in what could not have been better weather. The golfers enjoyed 18 holes, each of which was activated by Club Newlands sponsors and partners, brining interactive elements to the game, such as refreshments and massages. Treble and WP Rugby raise over R800,000 for Hubs Development Programme

Cape Town – Guests of Treble Group and the Western Province Rugby Football Union donated in excess of R800,000 for the Hubs Development Programme last night, at the second annual Fundraising Dinner and Auction. The event took place at the Southern Sun Cape Sun Hotel. Tsogo Sun generously donated the venue to the cause.

The Hubs Development Programme aims to develop and promote rugby within historically disadvantaged schools, providing educators with coaching skills and creating employment for volunteer coaches. More importantly, the programme keeps learners away from negative influences by involving them in training and tournaments. The purpose of the Hubs Dinner was to raise funds for the programme.

Guests at the event enjoyed a three-course meal served by none other than the DHL Stormers squad! The players had great fun waiting on the WP Rugby Exco, DHL Stormers team management and distinguished VIP’s from top firms all over Cape Town. Local comedian, Siv Ngesi provided barrels of fun and laughter as MC. Guests were entertained by classy and upbeat local band, Coda, who kept feet tapping and heads bobbing with their smooth vocals and jazzy saxophone.

DHL Stormers Head Coach, Robbie Fleck, and DHL Stormers Captain, Siya Kolisi, came forward to highlight the importance of the Programme. Siya shared his story of how he was ‘found’ and nurtured into the top rugby player he is today in a way that echoes the Hubs Development Programme. He acknowledged how his first coach was a major influence on him as a player and a man.

“If we had the Hubs Programme back in the day, we would have found twenty Siya’s!” said Fleck.

We also got to meet some of the beneficiaries of the Programme who came forward to share their stories, how they have been aided by the Programme and to say thank you to the patrons.

“It’s a really emotional experience, to see how others have benefited,” said Kolisi. “I know how they feel and how much it means to them to receive new boots or a new jersey.”

Siv chaired a highly energetic and intense auction! He raised the stakes with each bid and encouraged patrons to dig deep into their pockets, resulting a very profitable auction in the end. Between the auction and the various raffles that took place during the evening, close to R800,000 was raised. Treble Group and WP Rugby would like to thank all the sponsors who generously donated prizes and auction items.

The evening was another great success for Treble and WP Rugby, who are working together to extend the reach of the Programme in future, beyond the annual Hubs Dinner. We look forward to seeing what the partnership will create.
