Summer Treble Talks Newsletter

Greetings to you all,

Christmas is almost upon us and there has been so much to look back on in 2023. From a sporting perspective it has been another successful year in the annals of Springbok rugby. Our Treble UK team can boast they played a strategic sponsorship role in the buildup to Siya Kolisi’s successful green and gold defence of their 2019 Rugby World Cup title – thanks to that record Qatar Airways Cup win over the All Blacks in front of a sell-out crowd at Twickenham.

But it was the narrow 12-11 win over the Boks’ fiercest foes in Paris that really counted and kicked off a week of national celebrations. Humbled and over-awed was the reaction of Springbok captain Siya Kolisi and his team when they walked out to thousands of Springbok supporters at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.

This was only the beginning of scenes reminiscent of 1995, 2007 and 2019. Once again, for the third time since 2007, Treble worked closely together with SA Rugby to successfully organise the nationwide Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour. The planning of this project is mammoth and with little time to get ready from the final whistle late on Saturday night to the player’s arrival back just days later in South Africa. But Treble’s experienced team once again delivered and ensure that South Africa shared another historic moment with their heroes. Being in the middle of it all was a truly unique experience.

Following on from the green gold and heroics in France, the newly rebranded HSBC SVNS Series kicked off in Dubai and was immediately followed up several days later with the Cape Town edition in the second week of December. Kudos to World Rugby on bringing this incredible rebrand to life as this year was unlike no other.

To witness the rugby-loving public staying and partying to a whole new tune at DHL Stadium clearly illustrates that the realm of experiential marketing is the key to unlocking future fan engagement – one that keeps spectators happily entertained in and around the stadium, especially when their teams aren’t playing.

Since 2015, Treble has delivered world-class food & beverage solutions at DHL Stadium for the Cape Town leg of the formerly known HSBC World Sevens Series, and the 2023 certainly brought the extraordinary to fan engagement. Well done to our entire bar management team and to all the vendors who played such a valuable role in maximising the entire fan experience and showing the world that the Mother City does indeed know how to party.

The Treble Group is also delighted to announce that after the success of Lifesaving South Africa’s (LSA) WaterSmart School programme, in partnership with the Department of Education and DHL, LSA has launched a free online e-learning WaterSmart hub, making water safety content accessible online to all South Africans.

While water safety training does take place in South Africa, its reach is limited. This is because these specific programmes currently depend on in-person instruction conducted by volunteers, such as those working with LSA. That’s why it gives the Treble Group great pride to be involved in making a valuable life skill become available to an even wider audience.

In addition to this new online learning hub, the Treble team has managed to facilitate in all of DHL Lifesaving SA’s duty kit being delivered to lifeguards nationwide. Over 3500 sets of DHL-branded duty kit have been packaged and delivered to all voluntary lifeguards across South Africa, while also providing clubs with gazebos, duty banners, duty patrol flags and umbrellas for the summer season. This also included the planning and execution of the DHL Africa WaterSmart activations around the country during December, where LifesavIng SA’s lifeguards engage with the public in fun beach activities while learning to be safe around water.
