HSBC Cape Town Sevens back with a bang in December

The ever-popular HSBC Cape Town Sevens will return to the Mother City on the weekend of 9-11 December this year, when the best men’s and women’s sevens teams in the world will return to the DHL Stadium for the first time since 2019.

The 2023 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series schedule was announced on Tuesday, with 11 men’s tournaments – four of which will be standalone events – while all seven women’s events will be played alongside the men.

Both the Springbok Sevens and Springbok Women’s Sevens teams will be playing in Cape Town in December, with another sell-out crowd anticipated, while there is also a return to Hamilton in New Zealand and Sydney in Australia early next year.

“After missing out in the last three years, we are thrilled to see the HSBC Cape Town Sevens back on the schedule, and combined with the Rugby World Cup Sevens in September, it means local rugby fans will have another opportunity to experience some of the best entertainment available on the global rugby calendar,” said Jurie Roux, CEO of SA Rugby.

“Ever since we first hosted the South African leg of the World Series in Cape Town, it has become one of the most popular events, not only for supporters, but for the participating teams again, and we can’t wait to welcome them back to the Mother City in the summer.

“It’s great for the game to be returning to some form of normality after a few seasons of disruption, and after playing 14 consecutive World Series tournaments abroad since Cape Town in 2019, we know our players are looking forward to playing in front of their families, friends and fans yet again.”

Ticket information for the HSBC Cape Town Sevens will be released in due course.

The 2023 season will start in Hong Kong in November, but only with men’s teams, with a return to the Chinese city in March 2023, where both men and women will compete. Vancouver will also be a combined event in 2023, meaning that the traditional women’s tournament in Langford, Canada falls away.

Los Angeles (February), Singapore (April) and London (May) will be the remaining standalone tournaments for men, with the latter closing out the 2023 season.

Olympic qualification will be pretty much on top of anyone’s agenda during the season with the top four women’s and men’s teams in 2023 World Series securing their tickets to Paris 2024.

Catch the Prescient Freedom Paddle on SuperSport

Don’t forget to catch SuperSport’s screening of the 2022 Prescient Freedom Paddle on DSTV Channel 206 this evening at 6pm, with repeats running till 14 June. The Treble Group is delighted to see this great and ever-growing event premiering on SuperSport for the very first time since its inception in 2018.

Now in its fifth year the Treble-owned property, in which sponsorship, event management, marketing and operations of the Surfski event are fully managed by our award-winning team, sees competitors paddling 27kms around the iconic Robben Island – a symbol of South Africa’s miraculous journey to democracy and freedom.

Always seeking to raise the bar with every passing year, the Treble Group, along with the organisers and sponsors, endeavoured to expand the event and make it even more accessible to a wide variety of ocean paddle crafts, while promoting shorter alternatives for the less skilled and novice paddlers.

That desire to raise the bar has resulted in an even bigger push to embrace the digital changes in how content is viewed on multiple devices. Along with a dedicated highlights insert on SuperSport, expertly delivered by White Hot Media, there was a live streaming of the main contenders on event day to showcase Surfski paddling and promote the beauty of Cape Town’s unique coastline, while honouring Nelson Mandela’s long struggle and triumph to freedom.

Welcome Back!

The Treble Group welcomes the return of a familiar face in Vincent Heyns who joins our team in a new Account Manager role. ‘Vinny’ is well known in the corridors of the Treble offices as he spent several years at the company, growing from an intern to fast becoming an asset to the Treble Team.

With a strong skillset rooted in Sports Marketing, Sponsorship, and Event Management, Vincent worked on high profile accounts at Treble, such as the Springbok Supporters’ Club, Boktown, Club Newlands, and the Discovery Big Walk.

His pathway in the industry led him to the City of Gold, where he worked for Openfield Marketing in Johannesburg. A rewarding experience where he was part of the Account Management of Vodacom’s rugby sponsorship of the highly popular Super Rugby competition.

His time in Jozi saw him playing a role in several award-winning campaigns and it took him pitch-side to the electric atmosphere of the 2017 Super Rugby final between the Lions and the Crusaders at Ellis Park – and the rematch in the following year’s showpiece final in Christchurch, the untamed wildness of Leopard Creek – the most unique golf course on the planet, and the high-octane surrounds of Kyalami Racetrack.

A proud DHL Stormers and Western Province fan, Vincent has always had a long-standing love for rugby. From playing the game, to idolising his heroes from the Railway Stand, and later working with them, it’s no surprise that Vincent has forged a career in sport.

Vincent and his wife are embarking on their new journey together with the arrival of their first child, which balances perfectly with the new chapter in his career, as he grows into his new role and takes the next steps in his growth as a person, and a more importantly, a father.

Blending a vast knowledge of the sporting climate in South Africa, Vincent is an asset to our team as we look forward to new beginnings in the South African sporting landscape.

The Treble Group team wishes Vincent all the very best with his return to our offices in Newlands.
