DHL Africa Cup a resounding success for Treble
Cape Town – This past weekend, DHL Express employees from all over Sub-Saharan Africa converged in beautiful Cape Town for the inaugural DHL Africa Cup. The football tournament and cheerleading competition, an internal employee incentive programme for DHL Express employees, ended with resounding success and high spirits for everyone involved.
Treble Group is proud beyond words to have been appointed as the official event organisers of this stellar event. Our full-service and multi-disciplinary team was in its element, involving destination management, entries and registration, branding and logistics, food and beverage and digital communications. Planning and developing began in July last year and, using “It’s time for Africa!” as the theme, Treble conceptualised a uniquely African edition of the tournament that also maintained DHL’s high global standard.
Our insights and experience with travelling and eventing throughout Africa allowed us to offer DHL a tailored destination management solution, where we organised international flights, transfers between venues and accommodation for over 450 delegates from 40 different countries. This included a custom, online registration system, which we developed in-house, specific to the event’s needs.
Treble secured Ajax Football Club, in Parrow, as the tournament venue for the weekend, and branded its 12 acres of ground in DHL yellow and red. We kept supporters and resting participants entertained with mascots, inflatables, live music by Gavin Edwards and Jeremy Olivier, and the People’s Tent – 1,000 square meters of fun and relaxation, including virtual reality tours, PlayStation 4, foosball and ping pong, face-painting and lounging areas.
The football and cheerleading action was followed by an afterparty each night at Zip-Zap Circus, which our events team converted to a personalised, DHL night club, complete with trapeze artists and electric flame dancers! Treble was right at home providing the food and beverage solution for the entire weekend, from bars to food trucks and manging caterers.
Treble also provided a full-service digital communications solution, which included developing a customised website that encompassed a phone-first standard to adapt to the African scale of technology. The website was complimented with a social media campaign that kept attendees up-to-date with important event information and gave employees and families back home all the news from on the ground in Cape Town.
We have been thrilled with the feedback we received from DHL Africa Cup attendees and would like to thank DHL Express SSA for giving us the privilege to turn on an event of this calibre. We cannot wait to begin working with DHL again on Africa Cup 2019!
