26 September 2014

1 Billion people. 50 000 km. 45 Countries. 1 Continent. 1 Voice. 1 Ball. 1 Cup!

DHL, the official logistics partner of Rugby World Cup 2015, has embarked on an ambitious journey through 45 African countries, which starts in Cape Town and will end up in London in September 2015. The DHL Africa as One tour will see the team pass a single rugby ball from hand to hand while introducing Africa to the game of rugby.

As part of this campaign, the team from Treble Group and DHL will be driving across Africa in three Land Rover Discoveries, while capturing every step of the journey, every person, every place and every pass on film, in photographs and words, and then sharing this content with Africa and the world.

The seven-strong team left Cape Town on 7 October 2014 from the Cape Town DHL office and will be on the road for the next 11 months, engaging in various rugby and corporate responsibility activities. This journey in itself will be a test of endurance and commitment with the team having to face challenges from all quarters including terrain, security, health and safety.

The team is headed up by Louise Otter, Events Manager at Treble Group.

We wish the team well on their journey. Follow the hashtag on Twitter: #AfricaAsOne.

During the July school holidays of each year, 100 children from Overberg are coached by the Western Province Development Rugby Coaches. This year was no different.

With the DHL Western Province backline players in attendance, the children were treated to hands on coaching, interaction with the players during the clinic and a signing session afterwards. 10 schools from around the Overberg region were invited to participate in the coaching clinic. These schools were:

·         Overberg Primary

·         Swartberg Primary

·         The Glebe Myddleton

·         Greyton Primary

After the coaching clinic, the DHL WP players took part in the slots factor competition, which included a signing session for the patrons of Tsogo Sun Caledon Hotel and Spa.

And what is an event without some food. Tsogo Sun invited their top customers and clients to enjoy a braai with the DHL Western Province backline players.

The Club Newlands Coaching Clinic in Caledon was another successful event activated by Treble Group.

Treble activates the Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk for the 6th time

Even if you were in a wheelchair, recovering from an operation, or your knees were stiff and painful, you would have enjoyed the Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk, participants said after reaching the finish on Sunday, 18 May.

The Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk has been held each year since 2004, and this year more than 30 000 participants walked from uShaka Marine World to the People’s Park at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Once again, it did not disappoint, and participants included young and old, able and disabled.

At the park at the end of the race, those whose legs remained fresh joined an impromptu fitness training session in front of the stage, as music was played for the crowds. Others danced.

As organisers of the Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk, the Treble Group was once again proud to stage this popular event for the 6th time.

This year, the Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk embraced The Big Walk to Freedom theme – the freedom to make choices; the freedom to do business; the freedom to do anything you please; the freedom to take part in one of the most anticipated events on Kwazulu-Natal’s sport and leisure calendar.

As an agency, we are honoured to be part of this event and working with East Coast Radio on this prestigious event.

Treble delivers the President’s Cup Finals at DHL Newlands

A lively crowd was treated to four fantastic matches in the President’s Cup Finals Day at DHL Newlands on Saturday, October 4th, as the 2014 Western Province Club Rugby season finished on a high. Thanks to WP Rugby, SAB and the Treble Group, club rugby returned to DHL Newlands in fine style and the seven clubs in action did not disappoint on the day as all four finals produced outstanding matches.

The crowd, too, played their part with many of the fans vying for the R30000 worth of prizes and prize money for the best dressed super fan! These winners each walked away with amazing prizes, while the club with the most support, Franschhoek RFC, walked away with a prize to the value of R5000 from SAB.

It was a great day of rugby at DHL Newlands and massive congratulations to Dur-Bell RFC who beat Belhar RFC 20-11 in the Super League A final and ultimately, walking away with the Grand Challenge trophy.

Afterwards, the Rugby Championship Test match between the Springboks and All Blacks were showcased on the Castle Lawns, celebrating the rugby “gees” which was the main winner of the day.

WRAP-UP:

U20 President’s Cup Final:
After a season showcasing the strength of WP Club Rugby’s youth teams, Durbanville-Bellville once again showed their depth sending as their Under-20 side beat False Bay 27-20. False Bay RFC was rewarded with a R1500 cash prize and winners Durb-Bell R3000.

Super League C Final:
The President’s Cup has been an emotional lifeline for some clubs, notably Langa RFC who failed to make promotion this year, but nevertheless contested well during the knockouts. The day at DHL Newlands saw a mighty tussle between log winners Franschhoek RFC and Langa RFC with plenty of running rugby. Franschhoek RFC showed their mettle winning 44-34 and a cash prize of R10000. Langa RFC received a R5000 reward for their efforts.

Super League B Final:
Villager’s have been a dominant force all year, and proved as much with their promotion back into Super League A. After Millerton’s disappointment in the league – ending fourth and missing promotion – they were thrilled to still have the opportunity to challenge for silverware. The first half played out very even with the teams going into half-time deadlocked at 10-10. However, the underdogs, Milnerton RFC led by captain Eddie Theron, came out on top winning 25-15 and, with it, a cash prize of R20000.

Super League A Final (Grand Challenge):
Coach Jan Loubser and captain Alconray Botha were both ecstatic as Durb-Bell won the Super League A Grand Challenge at DHL Newlands. Belhar RFC took the early lead but Durb-Bell clawed their way back into the game going into the break 13-8. The second saw Durb-Bell with a touch more composure and eventually took the title 20-11 along with the R30000 prize money. Belhar received a R15000 bonus for their efforts.
